TEACHING
Taking the care and development of another human being’s singing voice into your hands is an enormous and sacred responsibility, one I take seriously. It is for this reason that I waited until I was in my forties to begin offering counsel and ideas to those who asked for my opinion. Through these encounters I discovered a strong desire to share what I’d learned from my years of study, practice, performance and life as a singing artist. So I began to teach, here and there at first, privately and in Master Class formats.
Teaching is an entirely different profession from performing. Great singers don’t necessarily make great teachers, and vice versa. It requires knowledge of the voice, beyond what you as a singer have known. Now that I’ve been a Professor of Voice at the Mannes School of Music at The New School for eight years, I’m spending more time offering online lessons and accepting new students. We’ve all weathered the pandemic, and in-person lessons are thankfully safe again. Now’s the time to begin.
Here’s to new learning, moving forward, and accomplishing goals.
